Decorative Clove Spiked clementines
December Featured Recipe – (Non-Edible)
So easy, so fun!
These festive clementines are perfect for the holiday season. They are non-edible, but they brighten and provide natural fragrance to your kitchen or dining area. They are relaxing to put together and encourage creativity, so gather your ingredients and get creative.
You will need:
- Six fresh clementines
- 3 Tablespoons of cloves (about +/- 45-50 cloves per clementine depending on size)
- 32 inches of ribbon or sturdy string in a color of your choice (per fruit)
- A sharp knife for scouring clementines

Start with six fresh clementines and add…
3 tbsp or at least 45-50 clove buds per clementine
About 32 inches of ribbon or string
Using a sharp knife, scour the clementine (skin only) in quarters
Cut about 18 inches ribbon and loop from bottom to top, tie once, twist at 90 degrees and return to the starting point to tie 2X again. Tuck and cut the excess ribbon. If you are skilled at knotting this could be done in a single step with no ribbon cutting
Use about 14 inches of ribbon, double it and tie the two loose ends together to make a knot. Loop and pull the knot thru the top of the clementine
Start piercing the skin of the clementines using the pointed ends of cloves, filling in all four quadrants
Feel free to be creative and make beautiful patterns
Depending on the temperature inside your home the clementines will last about 2 weeks or more
Beautiful, Fragrant, Decorative…
Recipe variation: Omit the string, decorate the clementines and place in a small decorative fruit bowl or oversized martini glass.
